Ocarina of Time Heart Pieces

There are 36 Pieces of Heart located around Hyrule. When collected, they add nine additional hearts to Link's life, greatly increasing his well-being and chances for victory. Below is a guide on where to find all them.

By clicking on each individual heart piece guide found below, you can mark which you have already found so it easier to find which hearts you are missing. Also, it will remember which ones you have marked as well so you can keep track of your progress no matter how long it takes you to complete the game.

Lon Lon Ranch Heart Pieces

Inside the storage shed at the back of Lon Lon Ranch, there is a crate you can move that is blocking a small hole. Crawl through this hole to find a Piece of Heart.

Hyrule Field Heart Pieces

On the edge of Hyrule Field, near the path that leads to Lake Hylia, there is an area that is fenced in on all sides. In the middle of this area, lay a bomb and a hole should appear. Inside the secret grotto, you can find another Piece of Heart.

On the north side of Lon Lon Ranch, there is a tree. Plant a bomb next to this tree to expose a secret grotto and drop down in to find another Piece of Heart.

Hyrule Market Heart Pieces

After obtaining the Lens of Truth from the well in Kakariko Village, you can easily beat the Treasure Box game in Hyrule Market using the Lens of Truth to see what is inside the Treasure Chests. The final prize being, of course, the Piece of Heart.

During the day in Hyrule Market, you can find a Bombchu Bowling game where Link is given the objective to position himself enough where the Bombchu will go into the hole in the wall ahead of him. Do this three times within the time limit and Link wins a prize. The prizes cycle through like this: Bombchus, Piece of Heart, Bombs, Bomb Bag, Purple Rupee. If you fail on the current prize, you will have to wait for it to come back around before you can win it.

During the night, you can find a lot of dogs roaming the streets of Hyrule Market. A woman from a house in the back alley has lost her dog and it is Link's job to return him. Look for the white dog that is in the market which is usually near the booth that is surrounded by people during the day. Make him follow you back to the only house that is open and the woman will give you a Piece of Heart.

Kakariko Village Heart Pieces

You can reach this Piece of Heart as child Link by climbing to the top of Death Mountain and letting the owl take you to the rooftop of a house in Kakariko Village. On the left side of the house you will find an awning below that you can drop onto. Go through the hole in the wall of the house, to find the next Piece of Heart. As adult Link, you can use your hookshot to reach the rooftop of the same house to reach the same hole in the wall. (They couldn't fix it after seven years?!)

On the house next to the tall tower in Kakariko Village you will find a man resting on it's roof. Use your hookshot to get onto the roof and talk to the man who will give you a Piece of Heart in exchange for your company.

Once you have killed at least 50 of the Gold Skulltulas and collected their tokens, return to the House of Skulltula in Kakariko Village and talk to the newly freed man. He will happily give Link a Piece of Heart for saving him.

Kakariko's Graveyard Heart Pieces

As child Link, you will find Dampe, the grave digger, walking outside in Kakariko's Graveyard at night. Talk to him to play his game where he will dig at his current location. Do this until you find the Piece of Heart, which might take quite a while as it is totally random.

After obtaining the hookshot from Dampe inside his grave, play the Song of Time to dissolve the blue stone to open a passageway back into Kakariko's Windmill. Jump across the gears to the other side to reach this Piece of Heart.

After your first race with Dampe's spirit, go back to his grave and race him again. If you are able to finish the race in less than a minute, Dampe will give Link a Piece of Heart.

As child Link, plant a Magic Bean in the plot in the left corner after you enter the Kakariko Graveyard. Return as adult Link and ride the newly formed bean plant to the cliff above and smash the crate to find this Piece of Heart.

In the second row of graves that you find in Kakariko's Graveyard, you should find five graves that are together. Pull back the second to the left gravestone to unconver a secret hole. Drop down and kill the ReDead and play the Sun's Song next to the mural to make a chest appear. Inside will be another Piece of Heart.

Death Mountain Trail Heart Pieces

As child Link, plant a Magic Bean at the mouth of Dodongo's Cavern. Return as adult Link and ride the plant up to the Piece of Heart that is sitting above the cave's opening.

Goron City Heart Pieces

Using your Deku Stick, light all the torches on the lower level of the city which will make the giant urn to start spinning. Grab a bomb plant, or use your own, and throw a bomb into the urn. The urn will release a Piece of Heart.

Death Mountain Crater Heart Pieces

There are two ways to get to the Piece of Heart in the side of this wall. Either enter Death Mountain Crater as young link from Death Mountain and quickly run foward and climb down the wall to grab the Piece of Heart, or warp here as child Link and plant some Magic Beans near the teleport pad. Return as adult Link and ride the Magic Bean plant over to the Piece of Heart.

If you haven't already for the Piece of Heart above, warp here as child Link and plant a Magic Bean in the plot near the teleport pad. Come back as adult Link and ride the stalk around the crater until you can hope onto the towering spire where you will find this Piece of Heart.

Zora's River Heart Pieces

On your way to Zora's Domain through Zora's River, you will come across a log that sticks out of the water. Near this log will be some frogs. Pull out your Ocarina and play the Song of Storms for them. The frogs will be so impressed, they will give you a Piece of Heart.

Child Link
After obtaining the first Heart Piece from the frogs, go back once you know all the non-teleporting Ocarina Songs and play each one of them for the frogs. Each song will make a frog grow in size and once all have grown, they will ask you to play a bug-eating game. The pattern for this game is:

Once completed, they will give you another Piece of Heart.

On the way up to Zora's Domain from Zora's River, you will spy a Heart Piece ontop of a tall pillar. To get to this Heart Piece you can use the cucco you find near the entrance and jump to the platform closest to the pillar and jump over to the heart piece, or use the cucco to get to the broad plateau across the river which has another cucco on top of it and use this cucco to glide over. You can also use your boomerang to grab it, or as adult Link use the Hover Boots to glide over to it.

On the way up to Zora's Domain from Zora's River, you will spy a Heart Piece near the very end of the path. To get to this Heart Piece, you can either use the cucco you find at the entrance, which is tricky as you have to throw it to the ledges and catch it before it can run away, use your boomerang to grab it instead, or as adult Link use the Hover Boots to glide over to it.

Zora's Domain Heart Pieces

In Zora's Domain, there are 5 unlit torches. Near King Zora, you can find a lit torch where you can light one of your deku sticks on fire.

Run down the stairs and light the torch here on fire.
Follow the spiraling ramp down to the shop and light the torch here.
Continue on into the water and find the torch in the corner straight ahead.
Keep going to the waterfall and go behind it to find two more torches.

After succesfully lighting all the torches, a treasure chest will appear that has a Piece of Heart inside.

Zora's Fountain Heart Pieces

In Zora's Fountain, jump across the icebergs where Jabu-Jabu used to sit. In the center of the pond, you will find another Piece of Heart floating on top of one of these icebergs.

After obtaining the Zora's Tunic and the Iron Boots from the Ice Cavern, sink down to the center of the pond below where Jabu-Jabu was. In the very center, you will find another Piece of Heart.

Ice Cavern Heart Pieces

Inside the Ice Cavern, you will reach the center room with 3 branching paths (and one more from the direction you came). Take the right here to reach the room with a lot of stalactites that try to fall onto Link. Grab the blue flame here inside one of your bottles, and then cut down the ice to the north in this room. Behind it you will find a Piece of Heart stuck inside a block of red ice. Use the blue flame next to it, to melt the ice and nab the Piece of Heart.

Lost Woods Heart Pieces

After learning Saria's Song, go to the Lost Woods and take the first left. Hop onto the stump here and pull out your Ocarina. Play Saria's Song, the Skill Kid will befriend Link and give him a Piece of Heart.

After you enter the Lost Woods, go right one screen the fall down into the lower area of this screen. Stand on the stump and two Skull Kids will appear. Pull out your Ocarina and they will ask you to play their songs. Play their three songs, and they will give you a Piece of Heart.

Lake Hylia Heart Pieces

During your relaxing trip to the fishing pond near Lake Hylia, if you manage to catch a 10lb fish and show it to the man that runs the fishing pond, he will give Link a Piece of Heart.

After obtaining the Gold Scale, head to the Lakeside Laboratory at Lake Hylia, and dive into the well. Dive all the way to the bottom to hear a sound cue. Go back and talk to Dr. Mizumi and he will be impressed that Link was able to dive so far and will reward him with a Piece of Heart.

Plant a Magic Bean next to the Lakeside Laboratory at Lake Hylia as a child. Return as adult Link and ride the Magic Bean stalk to get onto the roof of the Laboratory and climb the ladder to find the Piece of Heart at the very top. Alternatively, you can use the Scarecrow's Song to gain access by using your hookshot to pull yourself up.

Gerudo Valley Heart Pieces

In Gerudo Valley, there is a giant waterfall that hides a Piece of Heart behind it. To reach it, you can either grab the Cucco nearby and float over as child Link. Alternatively as adult Link, go across the bridge to the Gerudo side and fall down onto the platform and then jumping over towards the water fall. Climb the ladder here and grab the Piece of Heart.

Opposite of the giant waterfall, is a small platform on the gerudo side of the mountain. Use a cucco as child Link to float over and smash the crate to find another Piece of Heart. As adult Link, you can fall down onto the platform on the Hyrule side of the bridge and longshot your way across using the crate.

Gerudo Fortress Heart Pieces

On top of Gerudo's Fortress you will be able to see a Treasure Chest on one of the roofs. If you have a longshot, you can grab onto the chest to pull yourself across. Alternatively, play the Scarecrow Song and use him to get across if you only have the hookshot.

After acquiring the Gerudo Membership card, play the Gerudo Archery game at the top of the hill at Gerudo's Fortress. Score at least 1000 points and they will reward you with a Piece of Heart.

Desert Colossus Heart Pieces

Teleport to the Spirit Temple as child Link and place a Magic Bean here. Return as adult Link and ride the Magic Bean plant and jump off when it goes overtop the stone arch. You will find a Piece of Heart here.
